The Remedy Mental Health provides outpatient addiction treatment for adults who may benefit from medication-assisted treatment and psychiatric care. Our providers support eligible patients with alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, nicotine dependence, and co-occurring mental health concerns.

What is Medication-Assisted Treatment?

Medication-assisted treatment, commonly called MAT, uses medication and ongoing medical care to treat substance use disorders. It may help reduce cravings, manage withdrawal-related symptoms, and support recovery from alcohol or opioid use disorder.

Who May Benefit from MAT?

Substance use treatment may be helpful if you:

Have tried to cut back or stop but have found it difficult
Experience cravings or withdrawal symptoms
Continue using despite concerns about your health or daily life
Use alcohol or opioids to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress
Want medication support as part of reducing or stopping substance use
Are looking for ongoing outpatient care after completing a higher level of treatment

CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Alcohol Use Disorder

Treatment may include medications that help reduce cravings, support continued sobriety, or discourage alcohol use. Your provider will review your alcohol use, health history, symptoms, and goals before recommending a treatment plan.

Opioid Use Disorder

Treatment may include medications such as buprenorphine or naltrexone to help manage cravings, reduce withdrawal symptoms, and support recovery. Care is provided through regular outpatient appointments and ongoing monitoring.

Nicotine and Tobacco Use

Our providers may also offer medication and behavioral support for patients who want to reduce or stop their use of nicotine or tobacco.

Co-occurring Mental Health Conditions

Substance use and mental health symptoms often affect one another. Some people use alcohol or other substances to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, or attention-related symptoms. For others, substance use may worsen an existing mental health condition.

Because The Remedy provides both psychiatric medication management and substance use treatment, our providers can evaluate the complete picture and develop a care plan that addresses both concerns when appropriate.

FDA-Approved Addiction Medications

When appropriate, we have a range of FDA-approved medications to pull from, giving our team the ability to tailor treatment to each patient’s unique needs and health conditions.

The Medications We Use Include:

Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
Sublocade (long-acting injectable buprenorphine) for OUD
Vivitrol (long-acting injectable naltrexone) for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
Naltrexone for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)
Other medications as needed to promote optimal health and wellness

Initial Evaluation

Your provider will ask about your current substance use, previous treatment, withdrawal or relapse concerns, medical history, medications, mental health symptoms, and goals.

Personalized Treatment Plan

Your provider may recommend medication to reduce cravings, manage symptoms, or support continued recovery. Your plan may also include psychiatric medication management for co-occurring mental health concerns.

Ongoing Support

Follow-up appointments allow your provider to monitor progress, evaluate medication effectiveness, address side effects, and adjust your treatment plan as your needs change.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE & ADDICTION TREATMENT

Does insurance cover substance use treatment?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for substance use treatment. Coverage depends on your plan, diagnosis, previous treatment history and prior-authorization requirements.

Our team can help review your insurance information and explain the authorization process, but final coverage decisions are made by your insurance company.

Do I need a referral for treatment?

You do not need a referral to schedule with The Remedy. Your insurance plan may still require a referral, prior authorization or documentation of previous treatment.

How do I know whether outpatient treatment is appropriate?

Outpatient addiction treatment may be appropriate if you are medically stable, able to safely remain at home, and looking for help with cravings, relapse prevention, medication management, or co-occurring mental health concerns. It allows you to receive ongoing care while continuing to manage work, family, and other daily responsibilities.

A provider will review your substance use, withdrawal risk, physical and mental health, previous treatment, and recovery goals to determine the safest level of care. If you are at risk of severe withdrawal, need medical detoxification, or require 24-hour supervision, an inpatient, residential, or detox program may be more appropriate. The Remedy does not provide detoxification or inpatient treatment at this time.

Does The Remedy provide addiction therapy or counseling?

The Remedy does not currently offer addiction-specific therapy, AODA counseling, or intensive outpatient addiction programs. We do offer psychiatric care and medication management for substance use disorders, including support for alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, and nicotine dependence.

Patients may also receive general outpatient therapy for co-occurring mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, or stress, depending on provider availability. When addiction-focused counseling or a higher level of care is needed, we may recommend working with an outside provider or specialized treatment program alongside care at The Remedy.

Does The Remedy offer Sublocade injections?

The Remedy offers Sublocade® evaluations and injections for eligible patients with opioid use disorder in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Sublocade is a long-acting form of buprenorphine administered by a healthcare professional, typically once a month.

What is the difference between Suboxone and Sublocade?

Suboxone and Sublocade both contain buprenorphine and are used to treat opioid use disorder. Suboxone also contains naloxone and is generally taken regularly as a dissolvable film. Sublocade is a long-acting injection administered by a healthcare professional, typically once a month.

The best option depends on factors such as your current treatment, health history, symptoms, medication preferences, and recovery goals. The Remedy offers evaluations for Suboxone and Sublocade treatment at our outpatient clinics in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Do you prescribe methadone?

No. The Remedy does not operate an opioid treatment program and does not prescribe methadone for opioid use disorder. Our providers may offer other medications for opioid use disorder when clinically appropriate.

Where does The Remedy offer substance use disorder treatment?

The Remedy offers outpatient addiction treatment in Minnesota and Wisconsin, with clinic locations in Burnsville, Golden Valley, Maple Grove, Vadnais Heights, Hudson, and Eau Claire. Our Minnesota clinics serve patients throughout the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro and surrounding communities, while our Wisconsin clinics serve western Wisconsin and nearby areas.
