Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment for Substance Use in Minnesota & Wisconsin

HELPING YOU TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOWARDS RECOVERY

Substance use disorder treatment does not always require inpatient care. For some people, outpatient medication-assisted treatment can help reduce cravings, support recovery, and address co-occurring mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, or trauma.

The Remedy Mental Health provides outpatient substance use disorder treatment with a focus on medication-assisted treatment and psychiatric medication management.

WHAT IS SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER?

Substance use disorder, sometimes called addiction, is a medical condition that can make alcohol, drug, or medication use difficult to control. It may involve cravings, withdrawal symptoms, repeated attempts to cut back, or continued use even when it affects your health and daily life.

What are the signs of substance use disorder?

Substance use disorder can look different from person to person, but common signs include using more alcohol, opioids, or other substances than intended, feeling unable to cut back, experiencing cravings, or continuing to use despite negative effects on your daily life. Some people may notice withdrawal symptoms, increased tolerance, secrecy around use, or returning to use after trying to stop.

TYPES OF SUBSTANCE USE WE TREAT

At The Remedy Mental Health, we support patients struggling with alcohol, opioids, nicotine, kratom, prescription medications, and other substance-related concerns, while also addressing co-occurring mental health symptoms when needed.

Opioid Use Disorder

Opioid use disorder may involve prescription opioids such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, codeine, fentanyl, or hydromorphone, as well as illegal opioids such as heroin or illicit fentanyl. Opioid use can become concerning when it is difficult to control, leads to cravings or withdrawal symptoms, or continues despite negative effects on daily life.

Alcohol Use Disorder

Alcohol use disorder can involve drinking more than intended, feeling unable to cut back, experiencing cravings, or continuing to drink. At The Remedy Mental Health, we do not provide alcohol detox services, but we do offer medication-assisted support when clinically appropriate.

Nicotine & Tobacco Use

Nicotine and tobacco use disorder can include difficulty quitting cigarettes, vaping, chewing tobacco, or other nicotine products. Cravings, irritability, restlessness, and trouble focusing can make it harder to stop. Medication support may be an option for some patients as part of a personalized care plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is medication-assisted treatment for addiction?

Medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, is an outpatient treatment option that uses medication to help manage cravings, withdrawal-related symptoms, and relapse risk. For people struggling with opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder, medication can be an important part of recovery.

At The Remedy Mental Health, our providers look at your symptoms, substance use history, mental health concerns, and goals to determine whether MAT may be the right fit. We do not offer detox or inpatient addiction treatment, but we can help you explore medication options and next steps for care.

How do I know if I am a candidate for outpatient addiction treatment?

Outpatient treatment may be a good fit if you are not in need of detox or 24/7 care but want medication support, help with cravings, or care for co-occurring mental health symptoms. A provider can help determine whether outpatient treatment is appropriate.

Do you offer addiction therapy or counseling?

Our substance use care focuses on medication-assisted treatment and medication management. If additional therapy, counseling, or a higher level of addiction support is needed, we can help discuss those options.

What if I have substance use concerns and depression, anxiety, PTSD, or ADHD?

Substance use and mental health symptoms often happen together. The Remedy Mental Health can help evaluate co-occurring concerns and provide medication management support for both substance use symptoms and mental health needs.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is focused on understanding your needs and determining whether outpatient medication-assisted treatment is the right fit. Your provider will ask about your substance use history, current symptoms, cravings, mental health concerns, medical history, medications, and treatment goals.

This visit is also a time to talk through medication options for opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder, ask questions, and discuss what level of care may be appropriate. The Remedy does not provide detox or inpatient addiction treatment, but your provider can help you understand next steps if a higher level of support is needed.

Are your addiction treatments covered by insurance?

Coverage for addiction treatment and medication-assisted treatment depends on your insurance plan, benefits, diagnosis, medication, and provider network. The Remedy Mental Health works with many insurance plans, but coverage can vary.

We encourage patients to contact their insurance company directly to confirm their mental health and substance use treatment benefits, including medication coverage, copays, deductibles, and any prior authorization requirements. Our team can also help review insurance information before your appointment so you have a clearer understanding of what may be covered.
